got my own hosting space. from host.ac, its good. moved my blog to blog.smr.co.in.

this also means that i have to start from scratch (all over again) for building my page rank. you can help me on it by changing my blog url to http://blog.smr.co.in/cgi-bin/index.cgi on your blogroll or possibly add one if you dont have. my new posts will appear only on blog.smr.co.in so change the rss link to this one.

a guy is going to pay me decent money for teaching him c++ online. thats good hmm! he stumbled upon my blog and asked for a c++ guru.

about a month back my yahoo account aguy_likeme[1] was blocked. For violation of Geocities TOS which i didnt use from about 2 years. For once i thought not to use yahoo again, but most of my contacts were only on yahoo.

My new yahoo account is sm.ranta. Pls remove my old id and add this one.

[1] the id aguy_likeme was inspired from Emma Bunton’s ‘A girl like me’.

bought the domain smr.co.in

i am now also reachable at smr [at] smr.co.in
and this blog is accessible at blog.smr.co.in

more than owning a domain.. i am feeling great about ’smr’ part of domain which was luckily available. my preference list was something like : smr.com ~ smr.us > smr.net > smr.co.in… but now smr.co.in sounds better smile

also got hosting space @ moved.in aka smr.moved.in, but for now will keep all my data on iiit accounts and redirect smr.co.in to research.iiit.ac.in/~smr.

SGI seminar :: launch of PRISM

Monday, May 9th, 2005

Invitation forwarded by PJN sir to me and Somu.

Looks like SGI has learned something from LOTR’s story. Their new system PRISM is based on GNU/Linux Operating systems. Its never too late smile. But what about IRIX… will they carry it forward ?

The siminar was mostly for marketting purpose, and didnt had any good information for me, more than know the features of their system.

But yeah they have build a huge monster which can scale upto 512 Itanium2 cpus, 16 ATI FireGL sad gpus, upto 6.1TB memory (its ram.OMG!!!), upto 96PCI slots. for something like US $200,000+. ref: sgi.com.

Saw a smaller version of it ( 4 cpus, lots of emtpy slots ). It was as big as a water cooler. Awesome but.

They are collecting huge amount by just assembling things. Only good thing is enabeling parallel GPUs and a big cluster of cpus. Was thinking how difficult is it to do that…

And the best part of the seminar was the ‘mutter-mushroom’ in the lunch served @ Taj Residency ( the venue ).

I will be enjoying the Vizag yatra for next 3-4 days.
