Students, Wake Up!! - RL

Ramesh Loganathan, guest faculty at IIIT points out the opportunity that exists in the Products space today. In his post “Opportunity in Software Products- Students, wake up!!” he writes -

“Especially given that the industry is booming and there are lot of jobs for the deserving, there is very low risk in taking off the first couple of years after college and indulging in a new venture. Especially, if there is a product idea.”

We are personally in touch with him, and he is helping us a lot in the process. He doesnt understand the hesitation students have about entrepreneurship. He sees it like any other job, where one happens to own the IP as well. He also points out that if at all one fails, its worth an experiance. Anyone (he himself for sure) would prefer to hire a guy with entrepreneurship experiance over a guy with job experiance. After meeting him I feel a lot energised.

If anyone out there has any product idea, RL will be happy to discuss it. Just drop him an email.

btw.. with RL’s blog… we have got first faculty blog to add into our blogroll.

    Re
Glad to see that am able to encourage some entrepreneural bugs. Regarding the hesitation, I surely understand the hesitation. It is a big step. and a step in a highly untested direction. All I am saying is that there are approaches possible where for allpractical purposes it seems like a job. Otehr than one incidental point- that apart from drawing the salalry, you happen to own the IP (and teh company) you are building! Taht is what I mean by very little risk.

Look at it this way. It is a job. First and foremost. Then comes the IP and the company. If this can be arranged, and so financial and family concerns taken care of, where would the hesitation then be. Risk of failure? That is inherent in just about anything one can do. Even in just a reguar job. Probably no more here :-). In any case, once you secure funding, there is some comfort that someoine else also shares your confidence in t he idea/product/company.

SO in all, will emphasise again, that if anyone has a good product idea, chase it (atleast till funding). Will be well worth it. I will provide all guidance/support to any such effort.

    a step forward indeed
its really encouraging to see the sort of support & the steps being taken to encourage the entrepreneurial activites in iiit. with the likes of ramesh in, i hope there is a surge in the activities.

having been a student and then an aspiring entrepreneur doing a job, i do see how funding can be very critical to provinding the feel of financial security to the venture…
