Are we happy with the kind of research we are doing?
We have 13 research labs, i guess increasing exponentially. But we are just fooling ourself by calling it research. I dont really see any good work going here, except for a few places. Most of the projects are repeated every year. People even submit previous work, downloaded projects, etc. And the projects are like solving problems which others tried to solve some 10 years back. I especially want to comment on the FYP’s we have. Why dont we have panels to evaluate the FYP ( or any project for that sake) before it is given to students. To decide whether that is a genuine project or just crap project for just the sake of grades.
And i am irritated with the placements policy they want to build for this year. They say that placements is spoiling the research/study environment (if it exists at all). What i want to say is all of us are here for placements. We selected this institute because we hoped good placements from here. And if the institute really want researches, then it should project the institure like this only. Write clearly in prospectus that ‘we are research institure and we dont care about your placements.’ I agree that placements should not interface studies but screwing placements is not the solution.
I am not a researcher. I am a hacker. being a MS by RESEARCH students, i am supposed to do some research. but i know i can’t do research. Well sometimes research too is hacking, that what i have in mind to do. And graphics is a good field to do hacking and yet call it research.

Well really, most of us take courses for grades. And these fraud courses serve the purpose. They can make rules like compulsary attendence, but that alone can’t serve the purpose if the faculty doesn’t make the course interesting. I would anyday love to attend courses on philosophy, but the first day itself learned that the prof is an ……, and he doesn’t has any philosophy. And I dropped the course. But I guess that was the easiest course possible in IIIT, with promising grades. Economics. No comments. I will make the prof cry next sem. I promise. Whoever want to take the course, pls note that I will irritate the prof and most probably the students too. But i cant help. I am going to do it. I will teach him economics. “aey maamu, samajh mein nahin aa raha hai, thoda thik se samjha naa”.

Irritated with Prof’s threatning mails/spams to give F’s for not submitting projects, and about return of issued material etc. Why doesn’t someone create a procmail filter for such mails and distribute it to iiitians. _bahut duyaen milengi_.
