Excitement of research
some time back( more than a year) visesh gave the following analogy between programmers and mechanics -
Mechanics use tools developed by engineers/researchers to do their job. And so are we programmers/ software engineers. We use the tools developed by others to work like a mechanic. Following some guidelines set by some one else, to finish a job, using a more or less fixed procedure. We just learn to use the tool, like the mechanic do.
If not exactly, but in some sense we really are mechanics of the IT industry. And the real brain come from the researchers and the entrepreneurs. They are who matters in the industry, not us, the programmers, the software engineers, or developers. We are just the labour of this industry.
This thought left a great impact on me, and was one of the reason for me going MS, and maybe entrepreneneurship sometime soon. I dont want to just be a mechanic in the industry.
Maybe to reach the higher step you have to start from the lowest step. May be mechanic is the easiest way to rise above. But it is the slowest. Risk is the keyword to describe entrepreneurship. “A person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture”. And I am ready to take the risk.
