What makes me a Ranta ?
And what makes Upsy a Tegta and Preity a Zinta ??
And what makes we USA[1] pepole a *ta ?
Read the article : The ta-tas of Shimla
The unique and distinct nomenclature provides some meaningful information about the history and culture of the place….Places like Jubbal, Kotkhai, Chaupal and Rohru are home to families bearing the letters “ta” suffixed to the root word in their surnames…
Ranta comes from Ronu.. will ask more at home @ next holidays…
[1] USA = Upper Shimla Area, which covers the places Jubbal, Kotkhai, Chaupal and Rohru. In the article author refers to it as “upper reaches of Shimla district”.
* in LSA and other regions of Himachal, USA guys are called khadu.

Re:
There’s always so much pleasure in knowing one’s roots, where else to begin from other than one’s own name and may be family tree? What say, Ranta, something about your family tree also some day?

Re:
If Ranta comes from Ronu , then what does Tata go to T[ao]u?
In fact , are the Tatas from the Himachal ?

Hmm ..
Small doubt ->
If Dhaluta comes from Dholu, and Moghta comes from Moghu, should’snt Ranta come from Ranu ??

Well ppl lets not call our area USA…it sounds weird…n its not official….
neways its an unusual trend with the surnames of ppl in our region….every surname ends with a ‘ta’..
like chhajta, bragta, tejta, ranta, zinta , jinta etc…
