Although India's national constitution of 1950 sought to abolish cast discrimination and the practice of untouchability, the caste system remains deeply entrenched in Hindu culture and is still widespread throughout southern Asia, especially in rural India. In what has been called India's "hidden apartheid", entire villages in many Indian states remain completely segregated by caste. Representing about 15 percent of India's population—or some 160 million people—the widely scatter Dalits endure near complete social isolation, humiliation, and discrimination based exclusively on their birth status. Even a Dalit's shadow is believed to pollute the upper classes. They may not cross the line dividing their part of the village from that occupied by higher castes, drink water from public wells, or visit the same temples as the higher castes. Dalit children are still often made to sit in the back of classrooms.

Its time to get rid of the caste system itself.

Some like Yogendra Yadav believe the only way out is to also bring poor upper-caste and other such groups under the affirmative action umbrella.

Whatever the outcome, the debate illustrates the deep social divisions that still exist in modern-day India.

While the country is one of the world's fastest growing economies, it has still to win the battle over some of its deep-rooted problems. So better DESTROY the CASTE.

It's a shame that India has been reduced to such low levels by pathetic politicians who are only interested in vote banks.Politicians like Arjun Singh ought to be ashamed of themselves. He is nothing but a piece of shit that we must flush away to avoid the contageous disease from spreading around. So now India is going to 'SHINE' in all levels thanks to all the numerous SC ST OBC's who are undeservingly getting reservtion.HOw many of us would actually want to risk going to an SC ST OBC doctor who has come up through reservation?how many of us would trust our lives with them????How many of us would rather go to a general category doctor due to the fact that we can credit them more because they have come up with hard work and not with reservation???

We need to rid the caste system and discrimination of groups of people whether we are (Jatt, Khatri, Gujjar, Tarkhan, Ramgharia, etc. etc). Trust me, its not worth it to have bigotry and discrimination against one another, it moves us back and downward..........where as we want to be moving up and forward.

First thing... you should participate in the voting process. We need more participation from the educated youth in this process.

Second is..I support the reservation in medical seats. Whats more, it should be made compulsory that all the politicians should get themselves and family members operated by these doctors only...
